Izanagi – September 2012

Federal Palace Hotel and Casino

Izanagi, a deity born of the seven divine generations in Japanese mythology, is known as the god of all that is light and heavenly, a name befit the newest Japanese restaurant in Lagos. The food is certainly blessed by Izanagi, with a variety of heavenly dishes from tepenyaki and teriyaki to udon and ramen noodles and of course sushi.

Crowning the popular Piccolo Mondo restaurant and club, Izanagi is the newest member of the Piccolo family. The trendy restaurant is fast becoming the place to see and be seen. With the sushi bar welcoming you at the entrance, you can get a glimpse of the art that is sushi, or you can grab a seat at the bar and watch your food being prepared. The clean feel you would expect from a Japanese restaurant is incorporated into the colorful ambiance, with floral wallpaper that enhances the authentic Japanese experience. If you’re looking to impress a date or client grab a seat, or cushion, in their private traditional Japanese room.

At Izanagi, their aim is to give you the best of Japanese cuisine in Lagos, yet they have added their own touch to the progressive sushi menu. Their chefs have created specialty dishes and rolls unique to Izanagi, as a constant adaptation of the popular cuisine. With a variety of impressive salads, starters and main dishes you will be introduced to a new fusion of Japanese inspired meals, as well as favorite classics. If you’re looking for something new try one of the Izanagi specials such as the Izanagi Philadelphia, a lightly fried tempura sushi, with salmon, cream cheese and asparagus served warm with a sweet sauce that brings all the flavors together.

Their selection of sushi, sashimi, maki and nigiri rolls are nothing less than impressive. The crispy spicy salmon cone is made in a special oven to create a crispy seaweed exterior, giving it a little crunch. The Izanagi roll, a combination of eel, shrimp, crab and scallop, topped with their special sakano sauce is a delicious burst of flavors in your mouth. The crispy shrimp roll with sakano sauce has a special breaded crumb coating that is unique to Izanagi. The spicy tuna roll with a sprinkling of chili powder is another special of Izanagi that can be intensified by adding the Japanese green fire, wasabi.

So, whether you want a warm udon noodle soup, a sweet chicken teriyaki, an exquisite sea and land tepenyaki with lobster and beef, or a selection of their sushi presented in their boats to share, your experience at Izanagi will be memorable.
