What's Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media? | View Event Schedule

February 2013 will mark the first time Social Media Week takes place on the continent of Africa! Social Media Week Lagos brings together thought leaders, creatives, entrepreneurs and everyday citizens from Nigeria -and throughout the continent and the diaspora- to explore how people and organizations are connecting to share new ideas and information. Lagos is not an easy city to discover. Lostinlagos.com uses social media to encourage people to write and share reviews about their experiences dining, shopping and traveling throughout Lagos, Nigeria.

Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media is a multi-part event that encourages participants to use their mobile devices to take photos of their experiences while traveling around Lagos for Social Media Week. Every ‘Lost in Lagos’ image that we receive will be displayed as part of a multi-media gallery exhibit held at ‘a white space’. The gallery exhibit will also include Youtube ‘My Lagos’, videos submission from everyday citizens discussing what Lagos means to them.

Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media features an Open Mic (evening) and Pop-up Cafe (day) that is open to the public where attendees can relax, show off their talents and/or share their experiences in Lagos.

Monday 18th February: Lagos is not an easy city to discover. Lostinlagos.com uses social media to encourage people to write and share reviews about their experiences dining, shopping and traveling throughout Lagos, Nigeria.Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media is a multi-part event that includes a game night, open mic night, a workshop on hashtags and a twitter party. Throughout the week we will also have an ongoing multi-media gallery. We are encouraging participants to use their mobile devices, with tools such as Instagram, to take photos of their lives in Lagos. Every 'Lost in Lagos' image that we receive will be displayed as part of collage of all the photos. The gallery exhibition will also include art pieces by various artists that have been influenced by Social Media. We will also have the Youtube 'My Lagos', videos submission from everyday citizens discussing what Lagos means to them, playing throughout the week.The gallery will be dedicated to showing how influential social media can be in making a change in life in Lagos.Using the power of social media, Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media encourages all different types of people to participate, from young to old.The Big 60 cafe will be open throughout the week serving light food, coffee and cakes, and of course SMW cocktails. There will also be a photo booth there for visitors to capture their day at Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media.

Tuesday 19th February: Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media: Game Night,For many of us Social Media has become part of daily lives, from the moment we wake up to the last thing we do at night. Gone are the days where we site around a board game to keep ourselves entertained. However, with the new Monopoly Lagos edition recently released we want to dedicate an evening to game night. We will have 5 Monopoly board games with up to 8 players per table who will be competing against each other to enter into a raffle draw where we will be giving away amazing prizes, including prize money (not small change!). But there is a twist (or tweet), Social Media will not be forgotten. We will have a few spaces on the board where if you land on it you can either win real money or be entered into the raffle draw. When you land on these spaces you will tweet us with the #SMWMonopoly so we can enter you into the raffle draw (or pay you for landing on that space). The games will start at 7pm and end at 9pm. You have to register in advance to reserve your space at one of our tables. Up to 40 people can register but everyone welcome to come and support.

Wednesday 20th February: Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media: Hashtags Discussion Most of you are still not sure what hashtags are, or how you can use them to better benefit your business. We want to discuss all the possibilities of hashtags. For instance, using a hashtag to find a business in your area. If someone breaks a heel, they can tweet #CobblerIkoyi with their problem and a cobbler in that area can respond asap. Or you can even get advice on places in Lagos by tweeting a query to #LostinLagos. The aim is to discuss hashtags to help business and how to improve better interactions.

Thursday 21st February: Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media: Open Mic Night Social Media has become a tool for people to show off their talents, and jump start careers. With so many talented people in Lagos we want to give you the opportunity to show your talents live to people. After a full day of seminars and panel discussions come relax with one of our special SMW cocktails and have fun with the mic. We will record your talents and put them up on facebook, you never know who is watching! Who knows, you may become the next superstar!

Friday 22nd Februaryy: Lost in Lagos, Found on Social Media: Twitter Party A night of mingling using social media (mainly twitter) to have young professionals interact with one another. Playing games & interacting with their surroundings through hashtags and QR codes. Guests will be able to meet and greet with people that have similar interests and discover different new ways to use hashtags. You will also be able to send requests to the DJ, order drinks from the bartender and introduce yourself to people all through twitter. A number of Social Media cocktails will be available for free. We're gonna go twitter crazy!
