The spirit of some of the most famous rock and roll legends watches over the constant hum that is Hard Rock Cafe Lagos. There is an unspoken beat that carries through Hard Rock; a beat the staff respects, the musicians play to on stage and the diners fall into upon entering. For over 40 years, Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) has played homage to music and those who have created that music. In Lagos, it’s no different. The industrial-chic design of the restaurant embodies the essence of what the brand stands for. The graffiti on the walls, the high ceilings, the stage and the centerpiece inside-outside bar all come together in creating a space that brings together a culture of music, drinks and food.
HRC not only hosts some of the top music events in Lagos but also boasts unique and colourful cocktails and classic American food. Everything at HRC is larger than life including the food.
The generous portions are perfect for sharing, especially the Jumbo Combo platter. The platter is a selection of finger-licking appetisers which include: Tupelo Chicken Tenders and sweet Onion Rings with the perfect amount of crisp; summery Balsamic Bruschetta with juicy tomatoes, fresh basil and parmesan; spicy minced-chicken Spring Rolls; and glazed Signature Wings. The famous Classic Nachos platter is also super-sized and the real deal. Crispy tortilla chips are piled high with layers of three-bean dip, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeños and green onions with a side of sour cream.
If you get past the appetisers we recommend the Original Legendary Burger. Legendary is an apt description. This larger-than-life sized burger is mind blowing! After you take a massive bite, the layers of perfectly seasoned juicy beef, cheddar cheese, golden fried onion ring, and crispy smoked bacon come together in a heavenly combination. This burger epitomises the perfect American burger.
If you’re looking for something lighter, try the Famous Fajitas. Served on a sizzling plate with grilled onions and green and red peppers, the duo platter with chicken and beef is perfect if you just can’t decide between chicken or beef! The fajita is accompanied by a plate of pico de gallo, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese, fresh guacamole, sour cream and warm tortillas presented in a brown paper sleeve. There is a process to making the perfect fajita: spread a layer of sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo and cheese on the warm tortilla and top with one or two pieces of the tender beef and succulent chicken to melt the cheese. Then fold over the bottom just so it covers the base and close each side around it.
As with everything at Hard Rock Cafe, their desserts are no small feat. Their American Apple Cobbler is a warm plate of goodness. The fresh apple chunks are cooked with spices, most notably cinnamon, and studded with walnuts. This fruity mixture sits over a flakey puff pastry drizzled with a caramel sauce.
Their Cheesecake made with Oreo pieces is exactly how it sounds. It’s a mountain of deliciously rich cheesecake with chunks of Oreos, all topped with a chocolate sauce that is simply heavenly.
The inside-outside bar at HRC links the impressive outdoor area with a pool and beach-front to the indoor stage and dining area.
The long bar is home to HRC’s famous cocktails, available in an array of sizes and colours.
From the orange and red of their signature Hurricane to the electric blue of the aptly named Electric Blues cocktail, the colours ignite one’s curiosity and a sudden thirst ensues.
Try a spiked coffee with their Irish Coffee or simply skip the alcohol but not the experience with an impressive virgin Wildberry Smoothie. No one will know there’s no alcohol in it.
One of Hard Rock Cafe’s attractions, other than the food, drinks and live music, is its gift shop. On first entering HRC, all sorts of fun and collectable Hard Rock gift items greet you. What makes each item special is that they are all branded with ‘Hard Rock Cafe, Lagos.’ They also sell their famous collectable pins that the waiters wear around their necks. Look out for the waiters with lots of pins. They’ve been there the longest!
